Description of the course

The Ironman Portugal 70.3 Cascais commences with a swim stage at the vibrant and picturesque Ribeira Beach, celebrated for its dynamic ambiance and breath taking coastal views. Competitors engage in a single-loop swim, navigating the tranquil and transparent waters of the sheltered Bay of Cascais, which reach depths of up to 7 meters.

Following the swim, athletes embark on a one-loop bike course that promises both challenge and inspiration. This segment winds through the scenic Sintra Natural Park, offering spectacular views of the Atlantic coastline and the notable Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe. Additionally, the course includes demanding ascents on the Estoril F1 race track, intensifying the challenge for the participants.

The running portion of the event, comprising two loops, takes the athletes on a picturesque route along the coastal path, threading through the delightful town of Cascais and its idyllic surrounding countryside. This part of the course is characterized by undulating hills and strenuous sections, rigorously testing the athletes’ stamina and determination. The race concludes at the historic Fortaleza de Cascais, a significant landmark perched above the bay, providing a grand and memorable finish to this arduous yet fulfilling endurance event.

 

Weather Conditions

In October, Cascais, Portugal generally experiences mild and comfortable weather, which is characteristic of the region’s Mediterranean climate.
