Description of the course

Experience the breathtaking beauty of South Africa’s Garden Route in this spectacular half-distance triathlon along the scenic coast of Mossel Bay.

The swim takes place in the pristine waters of Santos Bay, beginning at the historic Santos Beach. Athletes navigate through crystal-clear waters following a marked route that hugs the coastline before finishing at De Bakke Beach. The bay’s natural protection offers relatively calm swimming conditions with spectacular views of the coastal landscape.

The bike course features a challenging out-and-back route that showcases the diverse terrain of the Garden Route region. From transition, cyclists head out on George Road before joining Louis Fourie Road in the direction of Albertinia. The route then continues onto the N2 highway before turning onto the R327, leading athletes through the dramatic Gouritz River valley. The turnaround point is located at the farm Uitkyk, approximately 6km before Herbertsdale, where athletes begin their return journey to Mossel Bay. This course offers a mix of rolling terrain with stunning views of the regional landscape.

The run course winds through the historic heart of Mossel Bay, offering athletes a tour of the town’s most scenic areas. From transition, runners head left onto George Road, continuing past the turning point and onto Munro Street. The route takes athletes through the vibrant Santos Beach area and into the atmospheric harbour precinct. The course then weaves through the town via Church Street and Station Street, before turning left at Bland Street and into Kloof Street. A highlight of the run is the coastal pathway section leading to The Point, where runners pass the iconic Delphino’s restaurant. The return leg follows Point Road through the parking lot, eventually returning to George Road via Bland Street, creating a dynamic and engaging run experience.

The course combines the natural beauty of the Garden Route with the historic charm of Mossel Bay. Athletes experience a sheltered ocean swim, a challenging bike course through diverse landscapes, and a run route that showcases both the town’s heritage and its stunning coastline. The mixture of terrain and scenery creates an engaging race experience that highlights the best of South Africa’s southern coast.
