Description of the course

The Ironman Lanzarote course is a challenging and scenic race that takes place on the volcanic island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Renowned for its rugged terrain, strong winds, and unpredictable weather, this demanding course is known for its dramatic landscapes, challenging climbs, and the unwavering support of the local community.

The swim commences at Playa Grande, a sandy beach in the bustling resort town of Puerto del Carmen. The course is a two-loop, point-to-point swim that takes athletes through the calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, offering stunning views of the volcanic landscape and the dramatic cliffs that line the coast.

1 loop bike ride takes athletes on a scenic journey through the heart of Lanzarote, traversing the volcanic terrain, rolling hills, and charming villages. The course winds through the Timanfaya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its otherworldly landscapes of lava fields and volcanic cones. Cyclists will encounter several challenging climbs, including the legendary Mirador de Haria and Mirador del Rio climbs, which offer panoramic views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean.

3 loops run commences in Playa Honda, a coastal town known for its beautiful beaches and traditional Canarian architecture. The course winds through the streets of Playa Honda and several other towns, offering stunning views of the ocean, the volcanic landscape, and the rugged coastline. The run also includes a challenging uphill section known as the “Wall of China,” which tests the endurance of even the most seasoned runners.
