Description of the course

The IRONMAN Cozumel course is a true test of endurance, encompassing 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run through the stunning island of Cozumel, Mexico.

The swim leg of the IRONMAN Cozumel begins with a scenic swim in the tranquil waters of Chankanaab National Marine Park. This protected area is known for its crystal-clear waters, gentle currents, and vibrant coral reefs, offering an unforgettable start to the race.

The 112-mile bike course is a true test of cyclists’ endurance and mental fortitude. It begins with a scenic loop along the coast, offering stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. After the initial loop, the course takes a turn inland, offering a challenging route through the island’s rolling hills. While the elevation gain is not substantial, the rolling terrain and consistent winds can test cyclists’ stamina. The bike course eventually returns to the coast, offering a final stretch along the picturesque coastal roads before reaching Transition Area 2.

The run leg of the IRONMAN Cozumel is a combination of flat and challenging sections. Participants begin with a scenic loop through the streets of downtown Cozumel, passing iconic landmarks like the Cozumel Lighthouse and the main square.

The second half of the run takes athletes along the waterfront boulevard, offering breath taking views of the azure waters and the coastline. The final stretch of the run follows the Malecón, a scenic waterfront promenade, leading to the finish line in the heart of Cozumel’s vibrant downtown area.

Weather Conditions

In November, Cozumel, Mexico experiences weather that is transitioning towards winter. The average high temperature is about 29.7°C (85.5°F), with average low temperatures around 21.7°C (71°F). These temperatures provide a moderately hot climate, which is slightly cooler than the summer months but still quite warm​​.

The humidity remains relatively high in November, averaging around 83%. The heat index, a measure that combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine the human-perceived equivalent temperature, is evaluated at a hot 38°C (100.4°F). This suggests that the actual feel of the temperature can be higher than the actual air temperature, especially in direct sunlight​​.
