Description of the course

The Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt, commonly known as the IRONMAN Frankfurt, is triathlon held in Germany. The race course passes through Frankfurt’s surrounding countryside, including villages and forests.

The triathlon begins with a 3.8-kilometer (2.4 miles) swim in the Langener Waldsee, a lake located near Frankfurt. The bike course then takes athletes through the Frankfurt countryside and includes a challenging section in the Taunus Mountains. This portion of the course is known for its technical difficulty with a total elevation gain of 1,620 meters (5,311 feet).

The final leg is a multi-loop run course through Frankfurt’s streets. The course is primarily flat with some minor hills. The race finish is based at the historic Römerberg square, a central location in the city.
